My sister held her customary wedding and banquet yesterday.
It was really fun during the gatecrashing event when the groom and brothers or xiong dis had to go through a series of ‘ordeals’ created by the sisters or jie meis. There were 5 yoga poses, which they had to manage for 20 seconds each. There was also the sour (lime juice and preserved lemon slices), sweet (marshmallows with grape flavoured fillings topped with honey), bitter (plateful bitter gourd slices) and spicy (butter crackers with wasabi spread) segment. 10 Q&As for the groom to attempt and he managed to complete each and every one correctly within a very short time. They have to guess the respective body parts of the bride as well and because they fell short of the passing mark, the forfeit was to sing and dance along to Wonder Girls’ Nobody. There was also a segment involving one-hand moulding of plasticine into the 3 golden words, also known as I Love You coupled with the bride’s name in the end, complete with decorations. The brothers were sweating buckets but the artpiece turned out great! They had to sing the full version of Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours before the groom reads out the clauses on the marriage contract that he later on signed. Then there was the declaration of love prior to the red packet negotiation. The gate was unlocked and the groom finally met his ravishing bride in the room.
The groom is really lucky to have such supportive and sporting friends! The team spirit was apparent and unity was evident.
Tea ceremony ensued and the couple served me tea too (because I am the eldest; man, I feel really old). All of us proceed to the groom’s side after that. My youngest sibling, a few brothers and myself left half-way through the tea ceremony on the groom’s end to check into the bridal suite first. Everything went on pretty smoothly and before we knew it the luncheon commenced.
What touches us most are the speeches delivered by the bride and groom respectively. They were full of heartfelt emotions and certainly, this is a very special day that I will hold close to my heart.
I wish my sister and brother-in-law a lifetime of bliss and happiness. May you overcome all hurdles hand-in-hand, and may there be many blessings showered upon you throughout this lifetime. =)
